Proper DJ and studio headphones often cost ₹8,000 or more. The Over-Ear Studio Monitor Headphones promise the key features for a fraction of that price. Are they good enough for beginners?
Design and comfort
These are closed-back, over-ear headphones with contoured ear cups and a padded leather headband. The headband adjusts smoothly and the ear cups fold in, so they pack into a gig bag easily.
The standout feature for DJs is the 90° swivel ear cups. You can flip one cup back and keep the other on your ear. This is the classic single-ear cueing style used behind the decks.
Cable and connections
The DJ-style coiled cable stretches to around 3 m (9.8 ft), so you can move around a booth without pulling your mixer. A 6.3 mm adapter is included for mixers, DJ controllers and audio interfaces. The coiled cable is heavy for commuting, but it is exactly what you want at a gig.
Sound
The 40 mm drivers give a fairly balanced sound with a bit of extra bass, which helps when beat-matching in a loud room. The closed-back design keeps crowd noise out and stops your cue mix from leaking into a microphone.
For home recording, they are good for tracking vocals and instruments, although serious mixing engineers will want a flatter, pricier reference headphone.
Pros
- Swivel ear cups for single-ear monitoring
- Good isolation for loud rooms
- Long coiled cable with 6.3 mm adapter
- Folds for transport
Cons
- Coiled cable is bulky for everyday use
- Ear pads can get warm in long sessions
- Not a perfectly flat studio reference
Verdict
For beginner DJs, bedroom producers and podcasters who need closed-back monitoring, these headphones offer the right features at a very friendly price. Pair them with a DJ controller or audio interface and you are ready to start.
